Wóphila Thánka: Actress and comedian Jana Schmieding

Actress and comedian Jana Schmieding (Reservation Dogs) stopped by our booth at the Black Hills Powwow in October and shared what she is thankful for as part of our Wóphila Thánka campaign. Wóphila Thánka is how we say “a great thank you” in our Lakota language.

Through 2026, Tanka Fund’s ranchers, team, and community are lifting up gratitude through short videos — each person saying “thank you” in their own language. These voices come together as one, honoring unity, connection, and shared purpose. Throughout this time, we will feature videos from staff, ranchers, and supporters offering thanks in their dialect.

Every contribution supports the return of Buffalo to Native communities — reinforcing tradition and strengthening local economies. Donors who give $500 or more will receive the 2nd Edition 100% Wool Blanket, Infinity Journey of the Buffalo. Our community stretches across the nation and beyond, speaking many languages — and we want to hear from you.

Record yourself saying “thank you” in your dialect and send it to marketing@tankafund.org for a chance to be featured on our website and social media.

Wóphila Thánka. 🙌🏾
