Our Rancher Partners: Knife Chief Buffalo Nation
Our Technical Assistance Team recently visited Knife Chief Buffalo Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Knife Chief, a nonprofit organization, participates in our rancher program and is a grassroots project on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation dedicated to restoring Buffalo as well as Lakota culture and traditions. Their herd is often used for ceremonial and spiritual purposes, in addition to feeding the Oyáte.
Our team connected with Knife Chief's head Buffalo steward Ed Iron Cloud III to look at his infrastructure, such as a solar well, and talk with him about his future goals.
"Connecting with Ed and being on his pasture really reminded me of the cultural side of Buffalo work," said Tanka Fund's Buffalo Restoration Director, Gusti Rattling Hawk.
