‘We are still here’
This Fourth of July, America marked its 250th year. For Native people and the Buffalo they depended on, those 250 years tell a different story.
The reality is that as colonization shaped this nation, it also sought to eradicate Native people and nearly exterminate their Buffalo relatives. Yet we are still here. So are the Buffalo.
That's why we're asking Native voices across the Tanka Fund family to reflect on what "We Are Still Here" means to them. Throughout this campaign, you'll hear from our staff, rancher partners, and community members as they share their own perspectives on survival, restoration, and the work of returning Buffalo to Native lands, lives, and economies.
From Business Manager Rachel Hunter reflecting on family and tradition, to rancher partners Bamm Brewer speaking on poverty and Lisa Ansell Frazier on reconnecting with the Buffalo — together, their stories offer a reflection of resilience.
